Sidestep November 30, Dimensions in Jazz

Ken Lovelett, Barb Truex and Vincent Pasternak bring back their trio Sidestep

November 30, 2018 in Portland, ME

Sidestep formed as a multi-faceted collective for creative musicians in the early seventies. The core trio of musician/composers, Lovelett, Pasternak, and Truex, would spend months writing and rehearsing new material with various collaborators before presenting “One Time Only” concerts. Dedicated followers appreciated Sidestep‘s unique performances, which included original compositions, spoken word pieces, structured improvisations, familiar songs, and more. Dispersed around the Northeast by the nineties, the core trio has nevertheless maintained close ties, frequently working with one another on different projects under various names.

For their Dimensions in Jazz performance, Sidestep will feature pieces they’ve returned to often over the years, revisit a suite not performed since it was recorded by Truex over four decades ago, material from The Barcelona Note Book, a recently released album by Pasternak, new sound sculptures by Lovelett, and other surprises. The result should be another One Time Only Sidestep experience.

Unless otherwise noted, all performances take place at the Meloon Chapel, Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodfords St, Portland. Doors at 7:30, show at 8:00.

Tickets are $5 for students; $10 for seniors, $15 in advance, and $20 at the door.
Advance tickets are available at Starbird Music in Portland and Gulf Of Maine Books in Brunswick.
